Bir Yaşam Dünyası Deneyimi Olarak Şehir

Abstract

Şehir nedir, diğer bir ifadeyle şehirde mukim insan şehir(le)de nasıl bir dünya deneyimi yaşar? Merkezindeki bu soru ile birlikte bu çalışmada fenomenolojinin sunduğu kavramsal çerçeve kullanılarak, şehir felsefi bir temele yerleştirilmekte ve bu temel doğrultusunda insanın şehir(le)de kurulan dünyası betimlenmektedir. Şehre yöneltilen bu felsefi perspektifte, farklı disiplinlerin onu görme biçimleri aşılmakta ve şehir insanın gündelik pratikleri dahilinde kurduğu, anlamlandırdığı ve deneyimlediği bir yaşam dünyası olarak kavramsallaştırılmaktadır. Çalışma iki ana düşünsel güzergaha sahiptir. İlk güzergahta yaşam dünyası kavramı ve ona ilişkin insan, gündeliklik, mekan, birlikte yaşam, beden gibi alt kavramlar yer almaktadır. Burada insanın dünyayı gündelik pratikleri içinde anlamlandıran bir varlık olduğu vurgulanmakta ve yaşam dünyasının da bu pratikler temelinde kurulduğu gösterilmektedir. Bu güzergahta aynı zamanda insanların inşai yaşam dünyası deneyiminin farklı olduğu ve bunun kendine özgü bir biçiminin şehir olduğu düşüncesi işlenmektedir. İkinci düşünsel güzergahta ise şehrin birbirine dolanık olan etik, politik ve estetik düzeylerde nasıl kurulduğu incelenmektedir. Şehir burada öncelikle, başkalıkların mekanı olmasının getirdiği etik deneyim imkanları bağlamındaki tartışmalar yoluyla diğer yerleşim birimlerinden daha yoğun ve farklı bir birlikte yaşam mekanı olarak resmedilmektedir. Birlikte yaşamın tesisinde, yapılandırılmasında etkin olan güç mekanizmalarının varlığının görünür kılınmasıyla birlikte de şehir bir politik deneyim mekanı olarak sunulmaktadır. Yine bu güzergahta insanın çeşitli tarzlardaki kullanımlarının, konumlanmalarının, geçişlerinin mekanı olan şehrin çeşitli boyutlarıyla bir estetik deneyim mekanı olduğu gösterilmektedir. Bu iki düşünsel güzergahtan hareketle tezde savunulan argüman, şehrin herhangi bir yaşam dünyası olmayıp, gündeliklik ve gündelikliğin somutlaştığı mekanlar temelinde etik, politik ve estetik deneyimlerle kurulup biçimlenen özgün bir yaşam dünyası olduğudur. İnsanı ve onun dünyasını şehir üzerinden okuyan böylesi bir çalışma, aynı zamanda fenomenolojik bakışın geliştirdiği ontolojik belirlenimleri de açarak insanın katmanlı varoluşunu görünür kılmaktadır. What is the city, in other words, what kind of world experience does the human inhabitant have in/(with) the city? Centered around this question, this study employs the conceptual framework offered by phenomenology to establish a philosophical foundation for the city, within which the world that humans construct in and with the city is described. In this philosophical perspective directed at the city, the ways in which different disciplines perceive it are transcended, and the city is conceptualized as a lifeworld that individuals construct, make sense of, and experience through their everyday practices. This study follows two main intellectual trajectories. The first trajectory engages with the concept of the lifeworld and its associated sub-concepts, such as the human being, everydayness, space, coexistence, and the body. Here, emphasis is placed on the idea that the human being is a being who makes sense of the world through everyday practices, and it is demonstrated that the lifeworld itself is constituted on the basis of these practices. Additionally, this trajectory develops the notion that human beings' experience of a constructed lifeworld differs and that the city represents a distinctive form of such an experience. The second intellectual trajectory examines how the city is constituted at the intertwined levels of ethics, politics, and aesthetics. In this regard, the city is first portrayed as an intense and distinct space of coexistence, distinguished from other forms of settlement through discussions on the ethical possibilities arising from its nature as a space of alterities. Furthermore, this trajectory illustrates that the city, as a site of human interactions, movements, and transitions across various modalities, constitutes a space of aesthetic experience across multiple dimensions. Building on these two intellectual trajectories, the central argument of this thesis is that the city is not merely any lifeworld but rather a distinctive one, shaped and constituted through ethical, political, and aesthetic experiences grounded in everydayness and the spaces where everydayness materializes. This study that examines the human being and their world through the lens of the city simultaneously extends the ontological determinations developed by the phenomenological perspective, rendering visible the multilayered nature of human existence.
