Psikiyatri Polikliniğine Başvuran Çocuklarda Sosyal Dışlanmanın (Ostrasizm) Öz Şefkat ve Duygudurum Düzeylerine Etkisi

Abstract

Sosyal bağ oluşumunun ilk adımlarının atıldığı çocukluk dönemi, bireyin sosyal becerileri öğrenmeye, kendini sevmeye ve çevresiyle duygusal bağlar kurmaya başladığı gelişimsel dönemlerdir. Bu çalışma psikiyatri polikliniğine başvuran çocuklarda sosyal dışlanmanın (ostrasizm) öz şefkat ve duygudurum düzeylerine etkisini ayrı olarak araştıran, korelasyonel bir çalışmadır. Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu, İstanbul’da yer alan bir eğitim araştırma hastanesinin Çocuk ve Ergen Ruh Sağlığı Polikliniğine başvuran (n=93) bireyler oluşturmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında; çalışmaya gönüllü katılmayı kabul eden bireylere yöneltilen sosyodemografik bilgi formu, sosyal dışlanma ölçeği, öz şefkat ölçeği-kısa formu ve duygudurum ölçeğinden faydalanılmıştır. Çalışmanın analizi, SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 22.0 (SPSS INC., Chicago, IL, USA) istatistik programı aracılığıyla değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, sosyal dışlanma ölçeği toplam puan ortalaması 27.065±6.307; bu ölçeğin alt boyutlarından olan önemsenmeme puan ortalaması 11.645±3.151, dışlanma puan ortalaması ise 15.419±4.299’dur. Öz şefkat puan ortalaması 17.624±3.359, duygudurum puan ortalaması ise 10.570±6.804 olarak bulunmuştur. Sosyal dışlanma toplam puanı ile ölçeğin alt boyutları arasında pozitif yönde güçlü ve anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur. Öz şefkat toplam puanı ile sosyal dışlanma, önemsenmeme ve dışlanma puanları arasında negatif yönde fakat anlamlı olmayan ilişkiler saptanmıştır (p>.05). Duygudurum toplam puanı ile diğer değişkenler arasında da anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır (p>.05). Sonuç olarak; çocuklar özellikle gelişim dönemlerinde çeşitli nedenlerle sosyal dışlanmaya maruz kalmaktadır. Araştırma sonucunda; sosyal dışlanma ve öz şefkat arasında negatif yönlü bir ilişki bulunmasına rağmen istatistiksel analizin anlamlı bir sonuç vermemesi sonraki çalışmalarda bu durumun daha uzun vadede incelenmesi gerektiğini göstermektedir. Buna ek olarak; duygudurumun sosyodemografik özelliklere göre farklılaşması, ruh sağlığı hizmeti verilirken tanılamanın çok boyutlu yapılması gerektiğini göstermektedir.

Childhood, the period in which the first steps toward forming social bonds are taken, is a developmental stage during which individuals begin to learn social skills, develop selflove, and form emotional connections with their surroundings. This study is a correlational research that separately investigates the effect of social exclusion (ostracism) on self-compassion and mood levels in child patients admitted to a psychiatry clinic. The sample group of the study consisted of 93 individuals who applied to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Outpatient Clinic of a training and research hospital located in Istanbul. Data were collected using a sociodemographic information form, the Social Exclusion Scale, the Self-Compassion Scale–Short Form, and the Mood Scale, administered to participants who voluntarily agreed to take part in the study. The data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 22.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). According to the findings of the study, the mean total score on the Social Exclusion Scale was 27.065±6.307; the mean score for the "being ignored" subscale was 11.645±3.151, and the mean score for the "exclusion" subscale was 15.419±4.299. The mean score for selfcompassion was 17.624±3.359, while the mean mood score was found to be 10.570±6.804. A strong and significant positive correlation was found between the total social exclusion score and its subscales. A negative but not statistically significant correlation was observed between total self-compassion scores and social exclusion, being ignored, and exclusion scores (p>.05). Additionally, no significant correlation was found between total mood scores and other variables (p>.05). In conclusion; children are exposed to social exclusion for various reasons, especially during their developmental periods. Although a negative relationship was found between social exclusion and self-compassion, the lack of statistical significance suggests that this issue should be examined over a longer period in future studies. The variation in mood based on sociodemographic characteristics indicates the need for a multidimensional approach in mental health assessment and service provision.
