The Roman Empire, which used its propaganda tools very effectively, shaped this ability especially through architecture. The buildings and public spaces that hosted the institutions shaped over the centuries were the main exhibition areas of this propaganda. Especially the capital, Rome, from which its legitimacy derived, was adorned with squares that hosted many propaganda elements. Of them, The Forum Romanum, the most prestigious one, was the core of the capital. When Constantine I moved the capital to the East, monumental Roman architecture continued to be used as the main propaganda tool. A new square was founded in Constantinople, called the New Rome, where the emperors staged their power. This square was named the Augusteum. The Augusteum was equipped with various propaganda elements as a stage of power. An imagination was created with the space, and memories were shaped with this imagination. Thus, the relationship between space and memory was used in the propaganda of the powers. With this feature, Augusteum has turned into a place of memory just like Forum Romanum. The process during which the Roman empire underwent a tremendous administrative, religious, and social transformation in late antiquity, was recorded down in the urban memory in the square named Augusteum. The Augusteum had an extremely significant place in keeping the traditions of the Roman State alive, with the urban pattern surrounding it, that is, with other public buildings. Although there is not much left from the Augusteum, which is today's Hagia Sophia Square, it still maintains its significance in terms of its spatial characteristics. Because the surrounding public structures such as Hagia Sophia, At Meydanı and Divan Yolu still stand today and keep the Augusteum's place in the urban memory alive.
