Türk şiirinde vicdan ve merhamet(1860-1923)

Abstract

Vicdan, tekâmül ettiği derecede niyet ve eylemleri etkilediği gibi bir ahlak düzeneği olarak da iyiliğe yönelten ve üstlendiği kaideler doğrultusunda kendiliği aklanmaya, iç huzura ulaştıran, aksi durumlarda ise azap ve pişmanlığı tinsel boyutta yaşatan bir egemendir. Aklın, duygunun ve sezginin paydaşlığında işleyen vicdan, muhasebe, murakabe ve muhakeme noktasıdır. Ondan kök alan merhamet ise acı karşısında geliştirilen içlenme, elemi dindirmeye dönük bir erdem ve öz çıkarlarından soyutlanarak ötekinin yararını gözetmektir. Sıcakkanlılık, duygudaşlık, hoşgörü, yardımseverlik ve her türlü dokunaklı duruma karşı bir hassasiyet geliştirmek merhametin yansımalarıdır. Tanzimat Fermanı'ndan ilhamla değişen düşünce ve söylem, şiirin farklı misyonlar üstlenmesine zemin hazırlamış; hürriyet, adalet, vatan gibi kavramlarla birlikte vicdan ve merhamet de Türk şairinin odağındaki temel değerler hâline gelmiştir. Ayrıca söz konusu kavramlar, yenileşme sürecindeki insan ve toplum tasavvurlarını şekillendiren önemli birer referans noktası olmuştur. Şinasi, Namık Kemal ve Ziya Paşa gibi öncü isimlerle başlayan yeni algı, Servet-i Fünûn, Fecr-i Âtî ve Millî Edebiyat dönemlerinin estetik anlayışlarıyla genişlemiş; böylece vicdan ve merhametin temsili çok katmanlı/boyutlu bir yapı kazanmıştır. Çalışmada öncelikle vicdan ve merhametin felsefi, sosyolojik, psikolojik ve teolojik boyutları kavramsal bir çerçevede ele alınmış, ardından bu kavramların alımlanmaları, şiir diline dâhil oluş biçimleri, şairin onlar karşısında konumlanışı tematik örüntüler üzerinden değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, vicdan ve merhametin kendiliğin hem teşekkülünde hem de toplumla ilişkilerinde belirleyici birer unsur olarak modern Türk şiirinde güçlü bir görünürlük kazandığını ortaya koymuştur. Bu bağlamda vicdan ve merhamet ekseninde Tanzimat'tan Cumhuriyet'e kadar yazılagelen/süregelen Türk şiiri üzerine kapsamlı ve eleştirel bir okuma sunulmuş ve edebî metin kapsamında imlenen anlam düzeyleri incelenmiştir.

Conscience, as it evolves, influences intentions and actions and functions as a moral mechanism that guides individuals toward goodness. It is a sovereign power that, in accordance with the principles it adopts, leads the self to justification and inner peace; conversely, it causes anguish and remorse in a spiritual dimension. Operating through the partnership of reason, emotion, and intuition, conscience serves as the focal point for accounting, contemplation, and judgment. Mercy, which stems from conscience, is an inner sorrow cultivated in the face of suffering, a virtue aimed at alleviating pain, and the consideration of the benefit of the other by abstracting from self-interests. Warm-heartedness, empathy, tolerance, helpfulness, and to cultivate of sensitivity toward all touching circumstances constitute the reflections of mercy. The shift in thought and discourse inspired by the Tanzimat Edict paved the way for poetry to assume new functions. Alongside concepts such as freedom, justice, and homeland, conscience and mercy became core values at the center of the Turkish poet's attention. Furthermore, these concepts became crucial reference points shaping the human and societal notions during the modernization process. The new perception, which began with pioneering figures such as Şinasi, Namık Kemal, and Ziya Paşa, expanded with the aesthetic understandings of the Servet-i Fünûn, Fecr-i Âtî, and Millî Edebiyat periods. Thus, the representation of conscience and mercy acquired a multi-layered/dimensional structure. This study first addresses the philosophical, sociological, psychological, and theological dimensions of conscience and mercy within a conceptual framework. Subsequently, the reception of these concepts, their integration into the language of poetry, the poet's positioning toward them their thematic patterns are evaluated. The findings reveal that conscience and mercy gained a strong visibility in modern Turkish poetry as decisive elements in both the formation of the self and its relations with society. In this context, a comprehensive and critical reading of Turkish poetry written/continuing from the Tanzimat period to the Republic, centered on conscience and mercy, is presented, and the levels of meaning implied within the literary text are examined.
