The most crucial concepts within the debates on free will and determinism, which place the human being at the center, are will and choice. Additionally, the concepts of action and temperament, to which these concepts are related, hold primary significance. Moreover, it is inevitable to consider the interrelation between these concepts and causality and predestination, which imply various forms of determination. Consequently, this study first addresses the structure of voluntary action, examining the perspectives of philosophers regarding the processes that give rise to human actions and aiming to delineate the distinctions between human acts and those of other beings. As there is no other entity in the sublunar realm, commonly known as the terrestrial world, to which choice, free will, and responsibility can be attributed, the investigation has particularly followed the inheritance and reception of Aristotle's views on action to determine this crucial difference. Nonetheless, the fact that man is a rational being and applies this inherent characteristic to actions is not sufficient on its own to attribute free will to him/her. Therefore, we have endeavored to examine whether the possibility present in actions, brought about by the forces associated with human will, aligns with the perspectives of causality and predestination. As these considerations revolve around the same problem, we have conveyed the outcomes using terms such as "compatibilism," "determinism," and "indeterminism," acknowledging their contemporary designations. Ultimately, when exploring the requirement for human beings to possess a form of free will, assuming they bear moral responsibility, and considering the necessity in metaphysical understandings that encompass the entirety of existence, we encounter a conundrum. Some philosophers leave this predicament unresolved, while others lean towards a deterministic stance, where determinist aspects predominate. Conversely, some philosophers strive to find a middle ground, characterized as compatibilism, attempting to reconcile these divergent points.
