Osman b. Abdülmennân'ın Hediyyetü'l-Mühtedî adlı eserinin (V. 2a-87b) tahkik, tercüme ve matematiksel değerlendirmesi

Abstract

Bu tez çalışmasının odağında Belgrad Divanı tercümanı Osman b. Abdülmennân el-Mühtedî'nin 1768-74 Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı sırasında mesâha (uygulamalı geometri) alanında kaleme aldığı Hediyyetü'l-Mühtedî adlı eseri bulunmaktadır. Hediyyetü'l-Mühtedî eseri yazıldığı dönem itibariyle Batıdan yapılan tercümeler ve askeri yenileşme süreci içerisinde değerlendirilmiş olsa da mesâha ilmi alanında yazıldığı için eserin nazari yönünün ortaya konulması Osmanlı matematik tarihindeki yerinin tespiti için elzemdir. Bu çalışma Hediyyetü'l-Mühtedî eserinin alan ve hacim hesaplamalarına dair temel mesâha konularını ele alan mukaddime ve iki kısmını içeren v. 2a- 87b bölümleri kapsamında yürütülmüştür. Teorik yönü ağır basan bu bölümde mesâha ilminin doğası gereği ölçüm aletleri ve mesafe ölçümü gibi uygulamaya dönük kısımlar da bulunmaktadır. Belirlenen bölüm kapsamında eserin ilmi yönünü ortaya çıkarma amacıyla eserin tarihi arka planı verilmiş ardından eserin tahkikli metni oluşturularak bu metnin Türkçe tercümesi yapılmıştır. Tercümede metne sadık kalınmış böylece dönemin ilmi dili, mesâha terimleri ve tercüme, telif, şerh bölümlerine dair bilgilerin izi sürülmüştür. Bununla beraber günümüz notasyonu ve terimleri kullanılarak metnin matematiksel değerlendirmesi yapılmış ve teorik yönü ele alınmıştır. Böylece eserin üretildiği bilim geleneği içerisindeki ilmî yönü etraflıca ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın Osmanlı matematik tarihi alanına katkı sağlayacağı umulmaktadır. Ayrıca eserin mesahanın askeri sahadaki yansımalarını içermesi dolayısıyla çalışmamızın askeri tarih çalışmalarına da ilmi bir katkı olması temenni edilmiştir.

This thesis focuses on a treatise, written by the Belgrade Court translator Osman b. Abdülmennân, which was built in the field of mesâha (applied geometry) during the Ottoman-Russian War of 1768-74, is called Hadiyyat al-Muhtadi (The Gift of the Convert). Although the translations made from the West and the military renewal process were evaluated within the period in which the work was written, it is essential for the determination of its place in the history of Ottoman mathematics to reveal the theoretical direction of the work because it is written in the field of mesâha knowledge. This study was carried out within the framework of sections 2a-87b, which includes introduction and two main parts of the treatise, which address the basic issues of area and volume calculations. In this part of the book, in addition to the theoretical aspects of mesâha there are applied parts in accordance with the nature of this discipline, such as measuring instruments and distance measurement. After an analyse about historical background, the study presents the critical edition and Turkish translation of Hadiyyat al-Muhtadi (fol. 2a-87b). Within the translation of this text the scientific language of mesâha, the terminology, and the parts of translation, the authorship and comments are traced. However, using actual notation and terms in mathematics, the mathematical evaluation of the text has been made and the theoretical aspects of the given sections of the treatise has been addressed. Thus, the scientific direction within the scientific tradition in which the work is produced has been attempted to be addressed. It is hoped that this study will contribute to the field of Ottoman mathematical history. Since the work contains the reflections of this discipline in the military field, it is assumed that it will also contribute to the field of military history.
