Özet

The thought that considers philosophy and culture as two alter- native poles assumes a universal morality which is independent from cultural differences. This paper investigates applicability of moral theories disregarding cultural issues and ‘universal’ prin- ciples. Social sciences may help investigating the compatibility between theoretical approaches and cultural facts. The concept of autonomy may be a contentious issue between cultures and this may affect applicability of an approach. An investigation of the perspective of Turkey may provide information as an example of cultural setting. Applicability of a theoretical framework de- pends on an interpretation which takes into consideration the cultural conditions. One universal standard will be far from being applicable.
