Mecmûa-i Ulûm-i Riyâziye'nin astronomi bölümünün transkripsiyonu ve incelenmesi

Abstract

Modern astronomi, milattan önce yaşamış bazı Antik Yunan filozoflarının da savunduğu Güneş merkezli evren modelini tekrar ve daha güçlü bir şekilde ileri süren Kopernik ile başlatılır. Bu yeni astronominin Osmanliya girişi 17.yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren başlamış ancak konu hakkında sadece özet bilgiler verilmiştir. 1732 yılında İbrahim Müteferrika, tekrar bastığı Kâtip Çelebi?nin Cihânnümâ isimli coğrafya eserine Fransız filozof Edmund Pourchot?nun kitabından derlediği kısa bir ek ilave etmiş ve evren modellerini yüzyıl önce bulunan Kepler yasalarından bahsetmeden Descarteşçı kozmolojiye bağlı kalarak anlatmıştır. 18.yüzyıl boyunca yapılan diğer çeviriler ya tamamen gözlemsel astronomiye dayalı zîcler ya da evren modellerinin Kepler yasalarına dayanmayan felsefi-fiziki anlatımlarıydı. Modern astronomi ile ilgili Osmanlida o güne kadar yazılmış en kapsamlı çalışmalardan biri Başhoca İshak Efendi?nin 1834 yılında yayınlanan Mecmûa-i Ulûm-i Riyâziye adlı kitabında yer almaktadır. Kitabın dördüncü cildinde astronomiye geniş yer ayıran İshak Efendi?nin, Kepler ve Newton yasalarına ve güncel gözlem verilerine dayanarak yazdığı bu eser elimizdeki bilgiler ışığında Osmanlida o güne kadar modern gök mekaniği konusunda yazılmış ilk metindir. Bu çalışmada öncelikle metin latinize edilmiş, ardından bilimsel içerik güncel verilerle kıyaslanarak değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın amacı Osmanlı astronomi tarihine ufak da olsa bir katkı sağlamaktır.

Modern astronomy begins with Copernicus, who again and more strongly put forward the heliocentric model of the universe, which was also advocated by some Ancient Greek philosophers who lived before Christ. The entry of this new astronomy to the Ottoman Empire started from the middle of the 17th century, but only brief informations about the subject was given. In 1732, İbrahim Müteferrika added a short appendix compiled from the book of the French philosopher Edmund Pourchot to Kâtip Çelebi's geography work named Cihânnümâ, which he reprinted, and explained the models of the universe by adhering to Cartesian cosmology without mentioning Kepler's laws found a century ago. Other translations made during the 18th century were either purely observational astronomy based zîcs or philosophical-physical accounts of universe models not based on Kepler's laws. One of the most comprehensive studies of modern astronomy in the Ottoman Empire until that time is in the book of Chief Hodja İshak Efendi, titled Mecmûa-i Ulûm-i Riyâziye, published in 1834. This work, written by İshak Efendi, who gave a large place to astronomy in the fourth volume of the book, based on Kepler and Newton's laws and current observation data, is the first text written on modern celestial mechanics in the Ottoman Empire as we know. In this study, firstly the text was Latinized and then the scientific content was evaluated by comparing it with current data. The aim of the study is to make a small contribution to the history of Ottoman astronomy.
