Özet
This article examines the historical trajectory and transformations of Imam Hatip schools since their establishment in 1924 under the Law on the Unification of Education, up to the present day. It highlights the political and ideological dimensions that have influenced the structure and objectives of these schools, revealing how they became a battleground between secular and conservative forces, especially after the February 28, 1997 coup. The article also reviews the quantitative and qualitative changes during the era of the Justice and Development Party, emphasizing the need to evaluate these institutions based on educational principles rather than political polarization.
