Osmanlı İstanbulu'nda pamuklu basmacılık ve çevresindeki ilişki ağları (1789-1876)

Abstract

Osmanlı sanayileşme anlatısının on dokuzuncu yüzyılda fabrikaların kuruluşuyla başlatıldığı, Batı Avrupa'nın sanayileşmesiyle karşılaştırıldığında ise yetersiz ve "geri kalmış" olduğu görüşü etkisini artık kaybetmiş, yerini bu konudaki eksikleri tamamlama çabasına bırakmıştır. Bu çalışma tarih yazımında süregelen yaygın anlatıdaki eksiklikleri tespit ederek imparatorluğun erken modern döneminde faal olan pamuklu basma sektörü ve basmacı esnafının izini sürmüştür. Çalışmanın amacı, Osmanlı İstanbulu'nda büyük ölçüde bilinmeyen bir alan olan pamuklu basma manifaktürlerini inceleyerek on sekizinci yüzyılın imalat ve üretim organizasyonuna yönelik yeni bir bakış açısı kazandırmaktır. Bu amaçla, on sekizinci yüzyıla ait nüfus ve esnaf sayım defterlerinden sağlanan verilerle Yenikapı Langa, Fazlı Paşa Sarayı ve Üsküdar Ayazma basma manifaktürlerinin varlığı görünür kılınmıştır. 18. yüzyılda kurulan bu manifaktürlere daha yakından bakıldığında küresel boyutta bir etkiye sahip olan Sanayi Devrimi'nden önce imparatorluğun lonca teşkilatında diğer ekonomik ve sosyal kurumlarında da bir dönüşüm sürecinin etkili olduğu görülmüştür. Bu gelişmeler ışığında Osmanlı sanayileşme paradigmasının yeniden değerlendirilmesinin önemi vurgulanmıştır. Bu çalışma, erken modern dönem Osmanlı dünyasında basma manifaktürlerini, basmacı esnafı ve üretim pratiklerini, kadınların bu alandaki iktisadi faaliyetleri ile Osmanlı basmalarını Avrupa şehirlerinde popüler kılarak, bu bağlantıyı doğudan batıya ticari faaliyetlerle transfer eden Ermeni basmacıların mali profillerine dair önemli veriler sunmayı hedeflemiştir.

The narrative dominant narrative that the Ottoman industrialization started in the 19th century with the establishment of factories, and that it was insufficient and "underdeveloped" compared with the industrialization of Western Europe has lost its power and been replaced by the efforts to provide for a more complete picture of whether the topic has missing pieces. This study traces the calico printing industry and textile craftsmen in the early modern period of the Empire and determining the deficiencies in historiography. The aim of the study is to put a new complexion on manufacturing and production of the 18th century by analyzing the manufactures of calico printing of the early modern period which has been a substantially unknown area in Ottoman Istanbul. In this respect, the printing manufactures at Yenikapı, Fazlı Pasha Palace and Üsküdar Ayazma are brought into focus through an analysis of the data obtained from census data records of craftsmen. Focusing on the manufactures established in the 18th century more closely makes it clear that before the Industrial Revolution, which had a global effect, the guild organizations of the empire as well as its other economic and social institutions went through a process of transformation. In the light of these developments, this study emphasizes that the paradigm of Ottoman industrialization is in need of reevaluation. This study aims to present the significant data on the printing manufactures in the Ottoman world of the early modern period, the printing craftsmen and their production techniques, the financial activities of women in this industry and the financial profiles of the Armenian printers who made the Ottoman calicoes popular in European cities and carried out the transfer of the products through commercial activities from the east to the west.
