İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü Romanında Retorik Bir Araç Olarak Güvenilmez Anlatıcı

Abstract

Modern Türk edebiyatının başlangıcından itibaren didaktik sese sahip olan veya sahip olmayan anlatıcıların yer aldığı eleştiri amaçlı ironik veya ironik olmayan eleştirel anlatılarla karşılaşılabilir. Modernist ve postmodernist eleştirel anlatılar güvenilmez anlatıcıya (unreliable narrator) sahip olarak görülebilir ancak İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü romanında görülebildiği gibi güvenilmez anlatıcı (untrustworthy narrator) kullanımı ile ironisini kuran geleneksel gerçekçi romanları gözlemlemek oldukça zordur. Makalenin amacı da bu ayrıksı duruma dikkat çekerek, İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü romanında güvenilmez anlatıcı kullanımını tespit ederek değerlendirmektir. Bu amaçla öncelikle güvenilmez anlatıcı kavramı ve bu kavram çevresindeki farklı fikirlere değinilmiştir. Güvenilmez anlatıcının ne olduğu, nasıl tespit edildiği ve işlevleri üzerine üretilmiş fikirlere yer verilmiştir. Önce güvenilmez anlatıcı konusunun merkezinde yer alan ima edilen yazar kavramı açıklanmış, bu kavram hakkındaki genel kabule olan itiraz ve ekleme dile getirilmiştir. Ardından anlatıcıyı güvenilmez yapan ima edilen yazarın normları ve anlatıcının normları arasındaki mesafe roman içerisindeki örneklerle gösterilmiştir. Son olarak güvenilmez anlatıcı (untrustworthy narrator) kullanımının metin içerisinde oluşturabildiği sorunlar ele alınmış ve bunların İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü romanında nasıl ortaya çıktığı ve kısmen nasıl üstesinden gelindiği gösterilmiştir.

Since the beginning of modern Turkish literature, ironic or non-ironic critical narratives with didactic or non-didactic voices can be encountered for the purpose of criticism. Modernist and postmodernist critical narratives can be seen as having unreliable narrators, but as can be seen in the novel İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü [One Face of Istanbul] it is quite difficult to observe traditional realistic novels that establish their irony with the use of untrustworthy narrators. The aim of the article is to draw attention to this distinctive situation and to determine and evaluate the use of unreliable narrators in the novel İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü. For this purpose, the concept of unreliable narrator and different ideas around this concept are discussed. What an unreliable narrator is, how it is determined and ideas produced on its functions are included. First, the concept of implied author, which is at the center of the unreliable narrator issue, is explained, and the objections and additions to the general acceptance of this concept are expressed. Then, the distance between the norms of the implied author that make the narrator unreliable and the norms of the narrator are shown with examples in the novel. Finally, the problems that the use of untrustworthy narrators can create within the text are discussed and it is shown how they emerge in the novel İstanbul’un Bir Yüzü of Istanbul and how they are partially overcome.
