Matematik eğitiminde oyun: bir meta analiz çalışması

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı oyun temelli matematik eğitiminin ilkokul ve ortaokul öğrencilerinin matematik başarısına etkisini inceleyen araştırmaların bulgularına kapsamlı bir genel bakış sağlamak ve bütüncül bir yaklaşımla incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda araştırmada meta-analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Meta-analiz çalışmasının verilerine veri tabanlarında belirlenen anahtar kelimeler taratılarak ulaşılmıştır. Çalışma ulusal ve uluslararası yapılan araştırmalarla yürütülmüştür. Meta-analiz çalışması kapsamında 2010-2022 Ekim ayı arası yapılan yüksek lisans tezleri, doktora tezleri ve makaleler incelenmiştir. Örneklem, standart sapma ve deney ve kontrol gruplarının ön test son test ortalaması verilerini içerenler çalışmalar kullanılarak analiz gerçekleştirilmiştir. Literatür taramasında 265 çalışmaya rastlanmıştır. Bu çalışmalardan 52 tanesi dâhil edilme kriterlerine uymaktadır. Araştırma 52 çalışmadan elde edilen 60 etki büyüklüğü ile yapılmıştır. Çalışmaların ayrı ayrı etki büyüklükleri hesaplanıp daha sonra rastgele ve sabit etkiler modeline göre genel etki büyüklüğü hesaplanmıştır. Yapılan heterojenlik testi sonuçlarına göre sosyal bilimler alanında sıklıkla kullanılan rastgele etkiler modeli kullanılmıştır. Rastgele etkiler modeline göre genel etki büyüklüğü 0,755 bulunmuştur. Etki büyüklüğü değeri Lipsey ve Wilson (2001) sınıflandırmasına göre üst çeyrekte yer almaktadır. Çalışmaların öğrenim kademesine, yayın türüne, oyun türüne, yayın yılına öğrenme alanına, ulusal ve uluslararası göre betimsel istatistikleri yapılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrenim kademesi, yayın yılı, oyun türü ve yayın türüne göre alt grup ANOVA analizleri yapılmıştır. Bu analizler doğrultusunda oyun temelli öğretim yönteminin matematik başarısı üzerinde etkisinde öğrenim kademesi, oyun türü, yayın türüne ve ulusal ve uluslararası olmasına göre anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır. Fakat yayın yılına göre anlamlı bir fark bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak oyun temelli öğretimin matematik başarısını artırdığı ve olumlu bir etkisi olduğu görülmüştür. Oyun temelli öğretimin matematik kazanımlarının genelinde ve her sınıf seviyesinde kullanılması önerilmektedir.

Purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the finding of research examining the effects of game-based mathematics education on mathematics achievement of primary and secondary school students, and examine with a holystic approach. Meta-analysis method was used for this purpose. The data of the meta-analysis study was acquired by scanning with the keywords determined in the databases. The study was carried out with national and international research. Within the scope of the meta-analysis study, master's theses, doctoral theses and articles issued between October 2010-2022 were examined. Semi-experimental, and experimental studies including control and experimental groups were examined. Studies that include sample, standart deviation, and mean data of experimental and control pretest and posttest groups were used in this research. Within the scope of the literature review, nearly 265 studies were found. 52 of these studies met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis study was conducted with 60 effect sizes obtained from 52 studies. The study was carried out with national and international research. The effect sizes of the studies were calculated separately, and then the overall effect size was calculated according to the random and fixed effects model. This model was accepted according to the heterogeneity test, because of the widespread use of the random effects model in the field of social sciences. In accordance with the random effects model, the overall effect size was found to be 0.755. Lipsey and Wilson (2001) classification the effect size value is in the top quartile according. The value of 0.755 is also in this range, and according to the meta-analysis result, it has a wide effect in the random effects model. Descriptive statistics of the studies were made according to education level, publication type, game type, publication year and learning area. In addition, subgroup ANOVA analysis were made according to education level, game type, publication year and publication type. As a result of these analysis, no significant difference was found in the effect of game-based teaching method on mathematics achievement according to education level, game type and publication type. However, a significant difference was found according to the publication year. As a result, it is revealedthat game-based teaching increases mathematics achievement and has a positive effect. It is also recommended that game-based teaching can be used in mathematics lessons and at every grade level.
