İstanbul’da Medrese Talebelerinin Eğitim, Sosyal ve Ekonomik Hayatları (1840-1908)

Abstract

Bu tez, 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısı ve 20. yüzyılın başlarında İstanbul’da eğitim almış medrese talebelerinin eğitim, sosyal ve ekonomik hayatlarına odaklanmaktadır. Medrese talebeleri için belirtilen zaman dilimi içerisinde İstanbul’daki eğitim ne derece önem taşıdığı, İstanbul’daki medreselerin durumu, medrese talebelerinin almış oldukları eğitimin dönem açısından değerlendirmesi ve bir medrese talebesinin mezuniyetine kadar geçirmiş olduğu aşamalar, dönem kaynakları dikkate alınarak izah edilmiştir. Ayrıca belirtilen zaman içerisinde medrese talebelerinin sayısı ve İstanbul’da bulunan aktif medreseler belirlenmiştir. Bunun yanında medrese talebelerinin gelirleri ve geçim sıkıntıları ve medrese talebelerinin bu sıkıntıları aşmak için ürettikleri çözüm yöntemleri de tartışılmıştır. Devletin sağlamış olduğu yardımlar, medrese talebelerinin ana geçim kalemlerinden olan cer faaliyeti ve diğer gelirler belirlenmiş ve belirtilen dönem içerisinde medrese talebelerinin ekonomik durumları ortaya konulmuştur. Bunun yanında medrese talebelerinin İstanbul’daki sosyal hayatları da izah edilmiştir. Edinmiş oldukları sosyal bağlantılar, yoğun olarak bulundukları mekanlar ve ders çalışma dışındaki etkinlikleri izah edilmiştir. Ayrıca medrese talebelerinin edinmiş oldukları sosyal ağlar meselesinde çıkmış oldukları cer yolculuklarına dikkat çekilmiş ve medrese talebelerinin sosyal hayatlarının İstanbul ile sınırlandırılmaması gerekliliği ifade edilmiştir. This thesis examines the educational, social, and economic experiences of madrasah students in Istanbul during the latter part of the 19th century and the early 20th century. The significance of education in Istanbul for madrasah students, the standing of madrasahs in the city, the assessment of the education acquired by madrasah students throughout the era, and the progression a madrasah student undergoes until graduation is elucidated through an examination of contemporary sources. The quantity of madrasah students and the operational madrasahs in Istanbul throughout the designated period are ascertained. The financial and livelihood challenges faced by madrasah students, along with the solutions they created to address these issues, are also examined. The assistance supplied by the state, the cer activity, a primary source of money for madrasah students, and other revenue streams were assessed, elucidating the economic conditions of madrasah students throughout the designated period. The social life of madrasah students in Istanbul is also elucidated. Their social connections, frequented locations, and extracurricular activities are elucidated. In addition, emphasis has been made to the traction travels that madrasah students have taken in the subject of the social networks they have acquired and it has been argued that the social life of madrasah students should not be limited to Istanbul.
