Village Institute Libraries in Türkiye

Abstract

This study was conducted to explain why village institute libraries were established in the Republic of Türkiye in the past, what benefits they provided, how they were managed, and their impact on today's librarianship. The descriptive method was used in the research. In order to conduct the research, the purposes of establishing village institutes, the training in village institutes, the qualifications of students and teachers, the qualifications of the places where village institutes were established, and the closure process were based on literature investigated. Then, research was conducted based on literature on the establishment purposes of village institute libraries, the establishment process, the situation of the library in terms of five basic elements, and the reading culture in village institutes. In line with the information obtained, thoughts about the impact of village institute libraries on today's librarianship are stated in the research. The results regarding village institutes and village institute libraries are presented under the title of conclusion, and the following can be said within the scope of these results: It has been understood that libraries are given importance in village institutes in general, and that village institutes and village institute libraries have a positive impact on individual and social development and the increase of reading culture. Another point that is understood is that village institutes, village institute libraries and reading-related activities are affected by the social structure of the society, political situations, the financial means of the institute and whether the institute staff does their job correctly

Bu çalışma geçmişte Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nde kurulmuş olan köy enstitüsü kütüphanelerinin neden kurulduğunu, ne yararlar sağladığını, nasıl idare edildiğini, günümüz kütüphaneciliğine etkilerini anlatmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada betimleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın yapılabilmesi adına köy enstitülerinin kuruluş amaçları, köy enstitülerindeki eğitimler, öğrenci ve öğretmenlerin nitelikleri, köy enstitülerinin kuruldukları yerlerin nitelikleri, kapatılış süreci literatüre dayalı olarak araştırılmıştır. Ardından köy enstitüsü kütüphanelerinin kuruluş amaçları, kuruluş süreci, kütüphanenin beş temel unsuru açısından durumu ve köy enstitülerindeki okuma kültürüne ilişkin literatüre dayalı araştırma yapılmıştır. Elde edilen bilgiler doğrultusunda köy enstitüsü kütüphanelerinin günümüz kütüphaneciliğine etkisine ilişkin düşünceler araştırmada belirtilmiştir. Köy enstitüleri ve köy enstitüsü kütüphaneleriyle ilgili varılan sonuçlar sonuç başlığı altında sunulmuş olup bu sonuçlar kapsamında genel anlamda köy enstitülerinde kütüphanelere önem verildiği, köy enstitülerinin ve köy enstitüsü kütüphanelerinin bireysel ve toplumsal gelişmeye, okuma kültürünün artmasına olumlu etki yaptığı anlaşılmıştır. Ayrıca köy enstitülerinin, köy enstitüsü kütüphanelerinin, okumaya ilişkin etkinliklerin toplumun içinde bulunduğu sosyal yapıdan, siyasi durumlardan, enstitünün maddi imkânlarından ve enstitü personelinin işini doğru yapıp yapmamasından etkilendiğidir.
