Özet
Harry Markowitz tarafından 1950'lerde modern portföy teorisini geliştirmiş ve optimum portföy kuramını ortaya atmıştır. Markowitz'in teorisi üzerinden, Sermaye Piyasası Teorisi geliştirilmiştir.
Modern Portfolio Theory was developed by Harry Markowitz in the 1950s who was also known for putting forward the optimum portfolio theory. Capital Market Theory was further developed from the Markowitz's theory. By employing these theories, one-factor asset pricing models including the traditional Capital Assets Pricing Model (CAPM) were created, but as an alternative to the CAPM, due to the difficulties arising from the problems of meeting its very restrictive assumptions, the Arbitrage Pricing Theory was also introduced. In progress of time, some difficulties have been mentioned with the application of the CAPM into the life and the contradictory conclusions were reached as a result of portfolio and market tests conducted by researchers and analysts. Also, at the end of the related period, changes in ? from the models were observed. The ? coefficients are widely accepted as the only tool in measuring the sensitivity of stock share returns to systematic risks in the general form of the CAPM, but their potential influence on the risk levels of macro changes can be neglected. This prompted people who specialize on this subject and modelling process to change their attitude towards finding new approaches and/or including different variables to increase the accuracy of the classic CAPM. In this work, the subjects such as separate Beta coefficient estimations with regard to changes in the power of international trade and inclusion of a new variable to test the possible effect of governance quality on stock returns are addressed. A simple governance qualtiy score is introduced and suggested as a straightforward criterion thought to be serving the purpose of determining portfolio-based governance quality level. These discussions can be considered to be main contributions of our work to the existing literature. Besides these, by using the classic and Bayesgil approaches to regression modelling together, some static and conditional model proposals extending the traditional CAPM to capture the impact of international trade advantage and corporate governance quality on stock returns have been produced and then their outputs were interpreted to derive conclusions.
