Epızootıology of Ectoparasıtes in Small Rumınant Populatıon of Konya, Turkıye

Özet
This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of ectoparasites in sheep and goats in the Konya province of T & uuml;rkiye.A total of 818 sheep and 155 goats selected through covenient sampling method from 30 different ovine breeders of Konya were screened for the presence of ectoparasites (e.g., lice, fleas, ticks, and mites) as per the standard parasitological procedures. According to the results, 19% of the sheep and 64%of the goats harbouredectoparasites on their bodies. Irrespective of the species of animal, overall distribution of ectoparasites was 12%, 6%, 4%, and 26% for ticks, lice, fleas and mites, respectively. The magnitude of ticks, lice, fleas, and miteswere 25%, 23%, 16%, and 0%, on goats and 10%, 3%, 2%, and 5%on sheep respectively. The identified species of ectoparasites were Rhipicephalus (R.) bursa (7%), R. Turanicus (2.1%), Babesia (B.) ovis (2.6%), R. sanguineus (0.6%), Ctenocephalides canis (1.5), Psoroptes ovis (2.9%), Sarcoptes scabiei ovis (2.1) and Pulex (P) irritans (0.3%) on sheep, and Rhipicephalus bursa (13%), R. sanguineus (3.9%), R. Turanicus (2.6%), Hyalomma (H.) detritum (4.5%), H. anatolicum excavatum (1.3%), Bovicola capri (14.2%), Linognathus africanus (8.4%), Ctenocephalides felis felis (12.3) and P. irritans (3.87%) on goats. As a result, due to the high prevalence of ectoparasites, combating ectoparasites is vital to prevent economic losses for breeders.
