In this study, the role of state Interventions in the historical development of the Turkish airline transport sector was examined. The State is the most important actor both for the emergence of Turkish airline transport as an economic sector and after the liberalization of the sector. From the beginning of the air transportation sector in Turkey, state interventions in the airline transport sector contain a continuance and change. In this context, it is seen that there is always a continuance at the state interventions in the airline transport sector, but those interventions which include instruments other than legal regulations differentiate in terms of scope, level and method. Those diversified interventions are the main obstacles for stability and institutionalization of the sector.
