Dr. Hacer Ataman June 2023 This research is a cross-sectional, descriptive and relationship-determining study conducted to examine the relationship between postpartum depression levels and perceived social support levels of mothers who gave birth during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sample size of the study was determined as 344 by power analysis. 345 women who applied to Yavuztürk Family Health Center, Zeynep Kamil Family Health Center and Ihsan Erdemir Family Health Center between April 2022 and October 2022 and agreed to participate in the study constituted the data size. Data were collected using the “Personal Information Form”, the “Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale” and the “Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support”. To evaluate the data, frequency and percentage analysis, mean and standard deviation statistics, pearson correlation and linear regression analysis, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (Anova) and post hoc (Tukey, LSD) analyzes were used. The mean age of the women is 30,050±4,796 (Min=19; Max=45), and the average age of their spouses is 32,740±5.272 (Min=20; Max=52). It was found that 40,6% (n=140) of the women were university graduates, 34,5% (n=119) worked in any job, 58,8% (n=203) gave birth by cesarean section, 94,8% breastfed their babies, 65,2% (n=225) had COVID-19 disease, 37,8% (n=86) of those who had this disease had it before pregnancy. In the study, the total mean score of the women's Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale was found to be 10,322±6,862 (Min=0; Max=28), and the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale total score average was 57,867±19,390 (Min=12; Max=84). The postpartum depression level of women was low, and their perceived social support was above average. The regression analysis performed to determine the cause-effect relationship between the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support total score and the total score of the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale was found to be significant (F=67.506; p=0.000<0.05). Accordingly, as the perceived social support level of women increases, their postpartum depression levels decrease (ß=-0.406). As a result, the increase in perceived social support during the COVID-19 pandemic reduces the level of postpartum depression. It is recommended that nurses evaluate women in terms of postpartum depression and social support situations.
