Özet
PurposeThe aim was to compare five different psychosocial index scores of individuals with different types of malocclusions and to investigate the relationship between these scores and the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (ICON). Materials and MethodsForty-seven adult patients with no prior orthodontic treatment were divided into three groups based on skeletal malocclusion type: Class I malocclusion (Group 1), Class II malocclusion (Group 2), and Class III malocclusion (Group 3). ICON scores were assessed for all groups. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS), Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS), Obsessive Selfie Behavior Scale (OSBS), Orthognathic Quality of Life Scale (OQoLS), and a demographic information form were administered digitally. The chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used for categorical variables, while the Kruskal-Wallis test and t-test were employed for continuous variables. ResultsStatistically significant differences were observed in Facial esthetics (FAC), Oral Function (OFC), and OQoLQ scores among the groups (p < 0.05), with Group 3 exhibiting higher mean scores than Group 1. A weak positive correlation was found between ICON and OQoLQ scores (r = .398), while a moderate negative correlation was observed between ICON and RSES scores (r = -.458). Additionally, OQoLQ scores were significantly higher in women than men (p < 0.05). ConclusionClinicians should consider the social behavioural changes and psychological factors associated with the complexity of malocclusion. By developing tailored management strategies, they can enhance treatment effectiveness and outcomes.i
