Aging is a complex phenomenon with biological and psychological social consequences. Biological aging is defined as a progressive decline in cellular and organ functions by age. Mitochondrial dysfunction, accumulation of mitochondrial mutations, and release of reactive oxygen species from mitochondria are important components of cellular aging, which leads to tissue and organ damage. Therefore, improving mitochondrial functions and health might be an important strategy in the healthy aging process. Novel mitochondrial transplantation/transfer studies have promising results. In this chapter, we aimed to discuss the importance of these studies for aging organ systems. © 2024 by Elsevier Inc.
