A Tocqueville Monograph: “Alexis De Tocqueville: A Thinker Against the Contradictions of the Modern Age”

Abstract

This 8-part work titled "Alexis De Tocqueville: A Thinker Against the Contradictions of the Modern Age" by Lütfi Sunar, published by Ketebe Publishing in 2019 and dealing with Tocqueville from many aspects, filled an important gap in the literature. The book is literally a Tocqueville monograph. Because this book is a study that deals with Tocqueville in detail, from his birth to his education, from the environment he grew up to, from his travels, from his professional life to his political experiences, from his intellectual adventure to the works he produced, together with the cultural heritage he received from his grandfather and father, as Tocqueville belongs to an aristocratic family. In this sense, he contributes to the fields of both sociology and political science.

Lütfi Sunar’ın kaleme aldığı, 2019 yılında Ketebe Yayınları’ndan neşredilen ve Tocqueville’i birçok yönüyle ele alan “Alexis De Tocqueville: Modern Çağın Çelişkileri Karşısında Bir Düşünür” adlı 8 bölümlük bu eser literatürdeki önemli bir boşluğu doldurmuştur. Kitap tam anlamıyla bir Tocqueville monografisidir. Zira bu kitap Tocqueville’in aristokratik bir aileye ait olması itibarıyla dedesi ve babasından aldığı kültürel mirasla birlikte doğumundan eğitimine, yetiştiği ortamdan yaptığı seyahatlere, meslek hayatından siyasi tecrübelerine, fikirsel serüveninden ortaya koyduğu eserlere kadar Tocqueville’i etraflıca ele alan bir çalışmadır. Bu anlamda hem sosyoloji hem de siyaset bilimi alanlarına katkı yapmaktadır.
