Aile uygulamasına derin bir bakış: Alternatif ve destekleyici iletişim sisteminin aile tarafından evde uygulanma sürecinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Otizm spektrum bozukluğu sosyal ve iletişim becerilerinde sınırlılık ile karakterize olmaktadır. Diğer becerileri de etkileyerek birçok becerinin gelişmesini engelleyen bu sınırlılıklar, bireyin entelektüel ve sosyal yaşamını sınırlandıran kapsamlı bir durumdur. Pek çok otizmli birey sistematik ve yoğun eğitim almalarına rağmen sözel iletişim (konuşma) olarak asgari düzeyde işlevsel sözcük üretebilmektedir. Alternatif ve Destekleyici İletişim Sistemleri (ADİS) bu bireyler için iletişim araçlarına erişim sağlamak ve bu doğrultuda iletişim kurmak için önemli bir yöntemdir. Sözel iletişim kurmakta sınırlılık yaşayan veya sözel iletişim kuramayan bireylerin iletişim sürecindeki katılım kısıtlamaları için çalışan ve bu kısıtlamaları alternatif yollarla destekleme girişimlerini içeren sistemlere Alternatif ve Destekleyici İletişim Sistemi denilmektedir. Konuşma üreten cihazlar, orta-yüksek seviyede teknoloji içeren ADİS arasında yer almaktadır. Bu araştırma, otizm spektrum bozukluğu olan bireylerin iletişim becerilerini geliştirmek amacıyla tasarlanan tablet ve bilgisayar destekli konuşma üreten bir programın uygulama eğitimini alan ailelerin evde bu tablet programını uygulama süreçlerini ve sonuçlarını incelemektedir. Araştırmada uygulama sürecinin izlendiği program, Benim de Sesim Var programıdır. Araştırma sürecinde Benim de Sesim Var programının betimlenmesi, programın aile tarafından evde nasıl uygulandığının ve uygulamaya dair muhtemel sorunların ve bu sorunların sebeplerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Çalışmanın bir diğer amacı aile üyelerinin tablet programı hakkındaki görüşlerini ve programın aile üyelerine etkisini incelemektir. Alternatif ve destekleyici iletişim sistemlerinin günlük hayatta yer alabilmesi için ebeveynlerin bu konuda eğitim almaları ve bu sistemlerin kullanımını desteklemesi ön koşuldur. Bu bağlamda, tablet programının eğitimini alan 3 ebeveyn araştırmanın katılımcılarını oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan durum çalışması ile yürütülmüş ve elde edilen veriler içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda çocuk ile ilgili bilgiler, ebeveyn duygu ve düşünceleri, tablet programının uygulanması, tablet programının katkıları olmak üzere dört tema ve bu temalara bağlı alt temalar elde edilmiştir. Araştırma boyunca otizm, alternatif ve destekleyici iletişim sistemi, ebeveyn eğitimi arasındaki bağlantı literatürle desteklenerek betimlenmiştir. Ayrıca araştırmada kullanılan ''Benim de Sesim Var'' programının yoğun betimlemesi yapılmıştır. Sonuçları literatürle desteklenerek tartışılmıştır ve gelecek araştırmalar için öneriler verilmiştir.

Communication skills, which are characterized by autism spectrum disorder, include several limitations. These limitations, which prevent the development of many skills by affecting other skills, are a comprehensive situation that limits the intellectual and social life of the individual. Although many autistic individuals receive systematic and intensive training, they can produce functional words at a minimum in verbal communication (speaking) skills. Alternative and Augmentative Communication System (AAC) are an essential method for these individuals to access communication tools and to communicate accordingly. The systems that work for the participation restrictions in the communication process of individuals who have limited verbal communication or cannot communicate and that involve attempts to support these restrictions in alternative ways are called Alternative and Augmentative Communication System. Speech generating device are among the AAC, which includes medium-high technology. This research examines the processes and results of the application of this tablet program at home by families who received training on the application of a tablet and computer-assisted speech production device designed to improve the communication skills of individuals with an autism spectrum disorder. It aims to describe the tablet program, how the family implements the program at home, and examine the possible problems and causes of these problems in the research. The other aim of the study is to examine family members' opinions about the tablet program and the effect on family members. For alternative and supportive communication systems to take place in daily life, it is a prerequisite that parents receive training on this subject and support the use of these systems. In this context, three parents who received the training of the tablet program constitute the participants of the research. The research was carried out with a case study, which is one of the qualitative research methods, and the data obtained were analyzed with content analysis. As a result of the research, four themes and sub-themes related to these themes were obtained: information about the child, parental feelings and thoughts, the application of the tablet program, the contributions of the tablet program. Throughout the research, the connection between autism, alternative and supportive communication system and parent education has been described with the support of the literature. In addition, an intense description of the "I Have a Voice" application used in the research was made. Based on the research results, advancing in line with the needs of families in the AAC implementation process may support the active participation of families in the AAC process. The results of the research were discussed with the support of the literature, and suggestions for future research were given.
