The adrenal glands are located on the top of each kidney and consist of two distinct parts, the adrenal cortex and the adrenal medulla. Each part produces different hormones and disorders can affect both parts of the gland. Adrenal cortex disorders include Addison's disease and Cushing's syndrome, while adrenal medulla disorders include pheochromocytoma. Diagnosis of adrenal disease includes blood and urine tests to measure hormone levels and imaging studies. Treatment may include medications, surgery or hormone replacement therapy. With proper diagnosis and treatment, many people with these lifelong conditions are able to effectively control their symptoms and maintain a good quality of life. © 2023 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
