he thesis titled "Informal Women's Education in the Late Modern Period in the Ottoman Empire" aims to investigate women who received informal education in the Ottoman geography between 1789-1923. When it comes to women's education in the Ottoman Empire, the first things that come to mind are usually modern schools, the number of graduates from these schools, and the curriculum structure. This approach contradicts the accounts of many memoirists and foreign travelers. These narratives mention women who pursued knowledge, learned instruments, and foreign languages without attending formal schools. Many girls attended formal schools, while also receiving private lessons from family members and teachers. There were also individuals who only received private education. The number of those who received one-on-one education in arts, religious sciences, craftsmanship, and music was quite significant. Identifying the identities of those who studied religious sciences and arts outside of formal schools, along with the developments and dualism experienced during this period, are among the issues addressed by the thesis. The study concludes that informal education was more widespread and of higher quality than previously thought.
